Ronnie Stone, the New York-based synth-pop artist, is announcing his signing to Chicago’s Feeltrip Records (Paul Cherry, Pearl & The Oysters, Pixel Grip) today with his first new single since 2015. “The Diamond” is a surreal neon-flecked-retro-dystopian track that draws on New Beat and Industrial to re-introduce the artist with his darkly cinematic, driving new single. Expanding on his 80s-influenced sound, Stone looks to contemporaries like TOBBACO and the work of artists like Front 242 and Pretty Hate Machine-era Nine Inch Nails as he takes his dark-electro-synth music to new heights. “The Diamond” features a stripped-down and mechanical arrangement, favoring funky, jagged bass lines with sinister synth and vocal melodies. The result is a menacing yet highly danceable track with plenty of memorable hooks, demonstrating Ronnie’s growing versatility as a producer.
The music video for “The Diamond” is a perfect example of Ronnie Stone’s aesthetic, drawing on 80s futuristic cyberpunk kitsch recalling scenes from movies like Demolition Man, Jonny Mnemonic, Escape From New York, Blade Runner and more. The music video was directed by Rosa Luna, Stone’s artistic partner, who also shot the video, while Caroline Mills did SFX and makeup. Stone will release a new LP on FeelTrip in early 2024. For now, you can catch him live at Purgatory in Brooklyn on October 7th with Bats Bats Bats Ghosts Ghosts Ghosts, Ryder Houston, and Primitive Heart.
